Herbie Hancock began his tenure as the Bill and Carolyn Powers Creative Chair for Jazz for the Los Angeles Philharmonic with the Hollywood Bowl 2010 season. His influence has produced a jazz series filled with an eclectic mix of musical contributions from African and pop to soul and big band, typical of Hancock’s diverse tastes. In the Walt Disney Concert Hall 2010/11 season, the jazz programming blends a mix of jazz from the modern era along with jazz improvisation. Concerts on this series include Natalie Cole (December 8, 2010), Brad Mehldau with Chamber Orchestra: Highway Rider (January 21, 2011), Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis (February 15, 2011), and Herbie Hancock (March 5, 2011).
