PLAYBOY JAZZ FESTIVAL PRESENTS 1+ONE, FEATURING PATRICE RUSHEN AND NDUGU CHANCLER WITH SPECIAL GUEST
PAUL JACKSON JR.

IN FREE BALDWIN HILLS CONCERT SUNDAY, JUNE 2ND

Let the good times roll… and head over to the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw for a summer afternoon of jazz and entertainment when the Playboy Jazz Festival presents a free community concert on Sunday, June 2nd, at 5:00 p.m. Doors open at 4:00 p.m. The illustrious group, 1+One, featuring Grammy-nominated artists Patrice Rushen and Ndugu Chancler with special guest, Paul Jackson Jr., will headline the show. The Harmony Project, under the direction of Amos Delone, will also perform.

Presented by the Playboy Jazz Festival and the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw, the event will take place on the outdoor promenade at the shopping center, located at 3650 West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at the corner of Crenshaw Boulevard and West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The concert is part of Playboy’s free community event series held in conjunction with the upcoming 35th Anniversary Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl on June 15th and 16th.

Teaming up together again, Rushen and Chancler will bring their unique fusion of jazz and R&B to the stage, complemented by Paul Jackson Jr.’s distinctly urban sound. Best known for her mega-hit “Forget Me Nots”, Grammy-nominated instrumentalist Rushen is also a classically trained pianist. The first female musical director for the Grammy’s and the Emmy’s, Rushen’s credits also include the People’s Choice Awards, the NAACP Image Awards and Janet Jackson’s 1993 world tour, “Janet” and more.

Recognized as a world class drummer, successful producer, composer and educator, Ndugu Chancler has recorded with such stellar artists as Herbie Hancock, Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Miles Davis, and Frank Sinatra. Paul Jackson Jr., who has performed with such renowned artists as the electronic group Daft Punk, Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson, is also known for his stints as a guitarist with The Tonight Show band and American Idol.

The Harmony Project is an award-winning, non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the healthy growth and development of at-risk children through the study, practice and performance of music. Under the direction of Amos Delone, the Harmony Project Jazz Ensemble will open the show and perform a diverse mix of classical jazz and bossa nova. The organization targets young individuals in underserved communities, promoting positive advancement through music lessons and ensemble participation. The group dedicates itself to students from elementary school through high school graduation.  Their work and commitment to underserved youth was recognized in 2011, when President Barack Obama presented founder Dr. Margaret Martin with the prestigious Citizen’s Medal, the nation’s highest honor for an arts-based youth program.

Food and refreshments will be available for purchase to the public. Glass containers, alcoholic beverages and audio/video recorders are not permitted. For more information regarding the community concert series or the Playboy Jazz Festival, go to www.playboyjazzfestival.com .
