Brooklyn Jazz Consortium/CBJC announces Brooklyn’s longest continuous
running jazz festival, 11th Annual Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival, from
April 1 thru April 30, 2010. This festival will include the induction
ceremony to the Brooklyn Jazz Hall of Fame and Museum on Thursday,
April 29th.
roots celebration of an American original art form (during Jazz
Appreciation Month) pays homage to icons of Jazz who called Brooklyn
home. Max Roach, Eubie Blake, Betty Carter, Cal Massey, Lena Horne,
Herbie Mann, Cecil Payne, Freddie Hubbard, and current native son Dr.
Randy Weston are just a few of the musicians who refined or made their
musical sound popular while living in this culturally rich borough of
New York City. Youth programs and educational forums are also an
integral part of this Brooklyn jazz festival as well as great Jazz.
enthusiasts from Belgium, Canada, Japan, Ireland, Atlanta, Chicago,
Pittsburgh, Connecticut, New Jersey, Long Island and yes even
Manhattan, came to and stayed in Brooklyn to be part of this community
driven festival underwritten by the forty (40) plus member
organizations/individuals of CBJC. Forty-three (43) concerts and programs
were held in Midwood, Fort Greene, Bushwick, East New York, Crown
Heights, Brooklyn Heights, Clinton Hill, and Bedford-Stuyvesant
sections of Brooklyn in April 2009.

included: Brooklyn Borough Hall, Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic
Church, Afroart Designs, Weeksville Heritage Center, Brooklyn
Historical Society, BAMcafe Live, Hitchcock Institute for Studies in
American Music at Brooklyn College, Solomon’s Porch, Rustik Lounge,
Dweck Center for Contemporary Culture-Brooklyn Public Library Central
Branch, Sugar Hill Restaurant & Supper Club, Janes United Methodist
Church, Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza and Sistas’ Place to name
some.
Brooklyn Jazz Consortium/CBJC founded in 1999, is an amalgam of patrons
of jazz musicians, entertainment venues, faith based and community
organizations. Over the past ten (10) years CBJC has presented an
annual spring festival, established a Brooklyn Jazz Hall of Fame &
Museum, and produced yearly programs that feature local jazz talent.
CBJC is a nonprofit corporation committed to preserving, promoting and
