September 2, 2010 –Central Pennsylvania Friends of Jazz (CPFJ) announced the fall line-up for its 31st season of presenting jazz to the Central PA stage.
This season’s opening act is the three-time Grammy-nominated Tierney Sutton Band, scheduled to appear on September 12, 2010. Sutton is an impressive vocalist with a following of her own as evident by JazzWeek’s Award for Vocalist of the Year, and consecutive nominations for Jazz Journalist Association Awards. Sutton was also among the top five female vocalists in the DownBeat International Critics Poll.
On October 17, CPFJ proudly presents the internationally-acclaimed jazz percussionist Poncho Sanchez, who will perform with his Latin Jazz Band. A musician, singer, arranger, composer, Grammy-winner and producer, Sanchez will feature tunes from his latest CD, Psychedelic Blues (Concord Picante), his 24th for the record company.
Sanchez has toured nonstop for over 40 years. CPFJ is honored to present this phenomenal artist to the Central PA region.
The Tim Warfield Organ Band will be featured on November 14, 2010 during its CD release party. The band will perform tunes from Warfield’s recently released “A Sentimental Journey” CD, which includes standards such as “I’ll Be Seeing You,” “In a Sentimental Mood,” “Here’s That Rainy Day,” “Crazy Rhythm” and more.
December 5, 2010 brings the CPFJ Military Big Band Holiday Gala
center stage.
All headliners are scheduled to appear at the Hilton Harrisburg in downtown Harrisburg, PA at 6pm. A local jazz band precedes each act at 5pm.
Ticket prices range from $5 to $25 and can be purchased in advance by visiting the organization’s website at www.cpfj.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the door at 4:30pm on the day of the concert.
CPFJ is a non-profit organization that promotes jazz in the Central PA region. Featuring the best jazz performers in the world, past performing artists include: Nat Adderly, Art Blakey, Ray Brown, Donald Byrd, Cyrus Chestnut, Chick Corea, Stan Getz,Slide Hampton, Roy Hargrove, Shirley Horn, Freddie Hubbard, Hank Jones,Diana Krall, Branford and Wynton Marsalis, Nicholas Payton, Anita O’Day, Tito Puente, Max Roach, Sonny Rollins, Phil Woods and too many more to mention.
Now in its 31st year, CPFJ is one of the oldest jazz organizations in the nation.
