UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., June 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Universal CityWalk’s® “5 Towers” state-of-the art concert venue announces its one year anniversary to coincide with a free performance by Tyrese, the popular entertainer known for his lead roles in the blockbuster series “Transformers” and “2 Fast and 2 Furious.” As part of CityWalk’s summer Music Spotlight Series, Tyrese will take the stage at “5 Towers” to perform hits from his latest album, “Open Invitation,” on Friday, June 29, at 7:00 p.m. Along with his number one single “Stay,” other soulful sounds may include classic hits like the sultry “Sweet Lady” and the smash track “How U Gonna Act Like That.”
Tyrese joins an impressive roster of world-famous performers who have appeared at “5 Towers” since its summer 2011 opening. Over 60 popular performing artists from reality television, music, dance and Latin pop have utilized the venue’s technologically advanced stage and audio system since its debut last year, giving concert-goers an unparalleled outdoor, live music experience. Talent who have graced the stage include Cee Lo Green, Carly Rae Jepsen, and finalists from NBC’s ‘The Voice’ Season 2, including winner Jermaine Paul.
Universal CityWalk features free, street entertainment every night of the week spotlighting L.A.’s best musicians, guitarists, pianists, and percussionists – many who have performed concerts throughout the world and have been featured on television. This summer, live street entertainment is anchored by the Music Spotlight Series at “5 Towers” every Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a diverse and eclectic offering of music and artists. Spotlight Fridays ramp up in July with LA’s hottest Hip Hop and Top 40 radio DJs spinning dance music to keep the rhythm pulsing into the weekend. August heats up with live vocal performances from breakout reality television stars including American Idol season 10 finalist James Durbin and The Voice first season alum, Vicci Martinez.
Spin Saturdays keep the tempo moving with dueling DJ battles in a turn-table spin-off with beat-catching DJ dance parties rallied by dance crews to keep the crowd jumping. July’s DJ lineup scorches with a special guest DJ performance by “one of the most sought after DJs in North America,” DJ Spryte, set to rock the stage with his turntable skills.
Retro Cover Bands and Latin Sundays are complemented with the highly anticipated Telemundo/mun2 Descarga concert series, entering in its sixth year of phenomenal success at Universal CityWalk breaking emerging artists in the regional Mexican, urban, pop and alternative music categories. The retro cover band lineups strike a nostalgic beat with an impressive lineup that will spotlight Metalachi, the first and only heavy metal mariachi band and must-see to believe musical act.
