March 15, 2014
Huntington Beach, CA – BBJazz is pleased to announce the adult contemporary R&B/Neo Soul duo, Kindred the Family Soul. They will perform at the Huntington Beach Library Theatre on March 15 at 7pm and 9pm. This featured show is the 2nd show of the 13th Annual BBJazz Concert Series 2014.
Kindred the Family Soul consists of the married couple Fatin Dantzler and Aja Graydon, out of Philadelphia. Dantzler was born in Philadelphia and began his music career in the music business writing songs for Pebbles and Bell Biv DeVoe. Graydon, from Washington, D.C., had a solo deal at the age of 15. The two united and began writing songs.
While performing at the Black Lily Film and Music Festival, they caught the attention of Jill Scott, who took them to her label, Hidden Beach Recordings. After two years of working on their first CD, Hidden Beach Recordings issued their debut album, Surrender to Love in February 2003, (Peaked at #7 Billboard’s Top Heatseekers), which included the songs “Stars” and “Far Away”. Their follow-up album was 2005’s In This Life Together – its title being a reference to Ossie Davis and Rubie Dee’s 1998 book With Ossie & Ruby: In This Life Together, spawning the single “Where Would I Be (The Question)”.
The duo was nominated for a Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B Soul Album, Group Band or Duo for Surrender to Love in 2004 and a BET Awards for the BETJ Cool Like That Award in 2006. The group’s third LP, The Arrival, was released on October 21, 2008. (Peaked at #7 Billboard, R&B Albums). Love Has No Recession, 2011, released by Shanachie, (Peaked at #19 Billboard, R&B Albums and #15 Billboard, Top Independent Albums).
The couple has had major magazine stories, which include Ebony and Essence Magazines, performed around the world and each month, you can find them lighting up a stage in a major U.S. City.
