NEW YORK, NY (PRWEB) JANUARY 13, 2016 – Marquee Concerts announces two special Valentine’s weekend events at New York City’s landmark Beacon Theatre. The annual 70’s Soul Jam Valentine’s Concert on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 3pm and 8pm features a line-up of five classic R&B/soul groups: The Stylistics, Dramatics, New Birth, Ray, Goodman and Brown, and Jobie Thomas’ Enchantment. On Sunday, February 14 at 8pm, Grammy winning songstress Stephanie Mills and romantic R&B artist Will Downing each take the stage in An Evening of Love: The Valentine’s Day Show.
All of the groups featured in The 70’s Soul Jam were prominent throughout the 1970s on the Top 40 charts with multiple Top 10 hits. An Evening of Love’s Stephanie Mills is a Grammy, Tony, and American Music Award winner with a career spanning over 3 decades, while Grammy nominated singer and native New Yorker Will Downing is an acclaimed vocalist dubbed “The Prince of Sophisticated Soul.”
During the early ‘70s, leading Philly soul group The Stylistics had a dozen Top 10 hits, including “You Are Everything,” “Break Up to Make Up,” and “You Make Me Feel Brand New.” Detroit’s Dramatics are best known for their #1 R&B hits “In the Rain” and “Whatcha See is Whatcha Get.” With hits like “Dream Merchant,” “It’s Been A Long Time,” “I Can Understand It,” “It’s Impossible” and “Wildflower,” New Birth has maintained a strong presence in the music world. The soul trio Ray, Goodman & Brown scored several hits the early ’70s (as the Moments) and their ballad “Special Lady” topped the 1979 R&B charts and hit #5 on the Pop charts. Jobie Thomas’ Enchantment’s “Gloria,” “Sunshine,” and “It’s You That I Need” stand out among the mid-1970s hits from Detroit-based group.
Rising to fame as “the little girl with the big voice” and starring 5 years as Dorothy in the hit Broadway musical, “The Wiz,” Stephanie Mills has become one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary music.
