The Pacific Jazz Institute at Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley presents Juan de Marcos and the Afro-Cuban All Stars for 3 nights only!  Band members are Juan de Marcos (guitar and vocals), Gliceria (percussion) Glicy (keys and vocals), Lauri (bass clarinet), Calixto (timbale set), Pepito (congas), Tony (bongos and cowbell), Gabrielito (piano), Panta (vocals), El Galan (vocals), Emilio (vocals), Gilito (vocals), Alberto (trumpet), Migue (trumpet), Yoanny and (trumpet).There will be one show each night at 7:30. Doors open at 6pm on Tuesday and 5:30pm on Wednesday and Thursday.

The man behind the Buena Vista Social Club, Cuban bandleader, producer, and extraordinary impresario, Juan de Marcos, brought together the cream of Cuba’s expatriate musicians, friends, and long-time collaborators to form the Afro-Cuban All Stars.  After several years of tremendous and unexpected success following their genesis in the early 1990s – including four Grammy nominations, featuring in several documentaries and films, and receiving many other distinctions – the All Stars have certainly become one of the best-known and successful Cuban orchestras today. The Pacific Jazz Institute at Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley presents Grammy-Winning Blues Musician Chris Thomas King touring in support of his latest release Sketches of Treme.  Band members are Chris Thomas King (vocals, guitar and piano), Bill Burke (bass) and Jeff Mills (drums).  Set times on Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30pm. Doors open at 6:00pm Tuesday and 5:30pm Wednesday.   

 

Chris Thomas King came into his own while expanding on traditional musical horizons that were inherited from his father, Tabby Thomas. Born and bred in the Delta tradition, King’s success as a bluesman was virtually guaranteed while he performed under the umbrella of his father’s genre. He grew up among the finest blues musicians in the genre at his father’s blues club and began touring with artists like Buddy Guy and B. B. King in his teens.
