HARLEM, NY, July 6, 2026 – Jazzmobile is proud to announce the return of Summerfest 2026, its landmark free outdoor jazz series now in its 61st year, bringing world-class live music to parks and public spaces across New York City throughout July and August. With a special Centennial tribute to Jazz legend, John Coltrane on September 23. SUMMERFEST is New York State’s longest-running jazz concert series.
This year’s Summerfest features concerts at Grant’s Tomb, Marcus Garvey Park, Brooklyn’s 500 Block MacDonough Street, The Louis Armstrong House Museum, Snug Harbor, and the Bronx Music Heritage Center, with performances by an extraordinary lineup of artists including Winard Harper, Craig Harris, Jeremy Pelt, the Sean Mason Trio, Antoinette Montague Experience, Houston Person, Steve Oquendo, Jay Hoggard Quartet, Bobby Sanabria Multi-Verse Big Band, and more artists.
Summerfest continues Jazzmobile’s mission of making great jazz free accessible to the public while celebrating the music’s history, present, and future. The series invites long-time jazz lovers, new audiences, families, and neighbors from across the city to experience live music in welcoming outdoor settings.
Jazzmobile continues its longtime partnerships with the greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce during Harlem Week; City Park’s Foundation|SummerStage; NYC Parks and Recreation; National Parks Service; the New Heritage Theatre Group; and on Friday evenings in July, Jazzmobile with the Classical Theater in Harlem (CTH) invites the audience to enjoy an evening of jazz and theater at Marcus Garvey Park. Following the JZM concert, CTH is presenting a brilliant performance of OTHELLO!
SUMMERFEST remains a free concert series thanks, in part, to our generous donors including: The Mellon Foundation, the Howard Gilman Foundation, the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, The Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation, The New York State Council on the Arts, the Harlem Community Development Corporation, West Harlem Development Corporation, and Joyce and George Wein Foundation. ABOUT JAZZMOBILE:
Jazzmobile is the first established organization of its kind, still in existence, dedicated to presenting, preserving, promoting, and propagating America’s classical music: jazz. Through its free core programs, Jazzmobile continues to carry forward the enduring mission of its founders.
Now entering its 62nd year, Jazzmobile proudly honors the vision of our founders, both champions of social justice: philanthropist, arts and cultural advocate, and administrator Daphne Arnstein, and pianist, composer, producer, pioneering educator, and NEA Jazz Master Dr. Billy Taylor.
Co-founded by Dr. Billy Taylor and fellow NEA Jazz Master Jimmy Heath, SUMMERFEST reflects Jazzmobile’s longstanding commitment to presenting accessible, world-class performance programming. Its pioneering education initiatives, developed from Billy Taylor’s concepts in the 1950s and reimagined to meet the needs of New York City’s underserved communities, have since been replicated and adapted by organizations and individuals across the nation and around the world.
For more than 50 years, SJW | Saturday Jazz Workshops has provided theory classes and performance training for young students and emerging performers, helping train the next generation of jazz artists. For non-musicians, Jazzmobile offers Jazz in the First Person, a lecture-demonstration series designed to introduce jazz as a music appreciation experience for audiences from toddlers to seniors. Jazzmobile’s education programs are free to all students enrolled in these programs.
Over the years, Jazzmobile and its programs have toured nationally and internationally, supported by corporate and government partners.
