The 9th Annual Daniel Pearl World Music Days | Oct. 1st-31st, 2010

9th Annual Daniel Pearl World Music Days Starts Today

Perform, Support or Attend an Event during October 1-31, 2010

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 1
/PRNewswire/ — The 9th Annual Daniel Pearl World Music Days begins
today with music events by artists of every genre from every corner of
the globe. The global network of music events unites and works to raise
awareness and promote peace, tolerance and understanding of our shared
humanity throughout the month of October. More than 1000 performances in
59 countries have already registered at www.danielpearlmusicdays.org to answer this call for “Harmony for Humanity.”  Music at these performances will be dedicated to the ideals of Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal reporter and musician who was kidnapped and murdered in Pakistan in 2002.

Everyone
is invited to participate: musicians, community groups, orchestras,
schools and houses of worship. Participation is simple and free –
register your event at www.danielpearlmusicdays.org and
then make a dedication from the stage or in the written program.
Registration remains open throughout the month of October, allowing
interested musicians to continue to join this global initiative.

“Our
son Danny was a talented musician who connected people through words and
music in every country he visited, often joining local music groups and
participating in impromptu jam sessions,” explained Judea and Ruth Pearl,
Co-Founders of the Daniel Pearl Foundation. “World Music Days’ message
has clearly struck a chord. Over and over we hear from artists — many
of whom participate year after year — how the simple act of a few words
of dedication empowers and inspires both the artist and audience with a
sense of purpose and unity around our shared humanity.”

Spanning across musical and geographic boundaries, World Music Days participants this year include Honorary Committee members Herbie Hancock, Ravi Shankar, Itzhak Perlman,  Zubin Mehta, Dave Koz, Mark O’Connor and George Pehlivanian.

“The
reach of this program is growing steadily every year. It is incredibly
rewarding to hear the enthusiasm of the participating musicians who are
looking to inspire their audience through this opportunity. Each
participating event and artist are making a difference in this world,”
added Paul Karlsen, Program Director

The
Daniel Pearl Foundation works domestically and internationally to
promote cross-cultural understanding, to counter cultural and religious
hatred, to encourage responsible and creative journalism, and to unite
people through music. For more information please visit www.danielpearl.org.
