The Pacific Jazz Institute at Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley presents jazz vocalist Goapele for four nights. Touring in support of her new album Break Of Dawn. Doors open at 6:00pm on Thursday and5:30pm Friday through Sunday.

Goapele possesses one of the most alluring and powerful voices, injecting poignant words with both soul and substance. Her voice isquietly seductive, sexy, galvanizing and sweet. She brilliantly experimentswith skillful compositions and heart wrenching harmonies, all with a smooth as pearl delivery. Billboard Magazine says “Her name, Goapele is just as intriguing as her music that organically mixes R&B, hip-hop, jazz, and electronica in introspective, candid songs that colorfully reflect this soulful sista’s diverse range and life experiences.”

The Oakland, California-based songstress broke onto the Bay Area music scene in 2001 with her ethereal EP, Closer, and the follow-up full-length album, Even Closer. Released on her family-owned record company, Skyblaze Recordings, the album’s mix of soulful grooves and thought-provoking lyrics introduced the world to a multi-faceted artist and songwriter, known as much for her social and political activism as for her lush romantic ballads.

Goapele’s searing voice can be both sensuous and serious, often on the same song. After taking off time from recording, Goapele has returned to the forefront of the music scene with Break of Dawn, acollection of sophisticated songs dealing with love, loss and all the life in between.

“One of my goals for the newest project Break of Dawn was to be more uninhabited,” Goapele says. “I came into this business as a young woman who wanted to be taken seriously for my music, but, now I’m more willing to share my sexiness as well. I realize that it’s possible to be both complex and provocative.”

After a six-year hiatus, Goapele returns to the limelight with perhaps her most diverse and exciting project to date. Without a doubt, the beauty, tenderness and joyful music on Break of Dawn will make your day.
