The Pacific Jazz Institute at Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley presents the Grammy-nominated R&B songstresses En Vogue, for four nights and six shows!  Band members include Terry Ellis (vocals), Cindy Braggs (vocals), Rhona Bennett (vocals), Derrick “Yung Wurld” McAlister (Music Director/Keys), Elijah Green (bass) and Maurice Ferris (drums).  Set times on Thursday and Sunday at 7:30pm and Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm and 9:30pm.  Doors open at 6pm on Thursday and 5:30pm Friday – Sunday.
 
 
Assembled in Oakland, California in July 1989, En Vogue launched with original members Cindy Herron, Maxine Jones, Dawn Robinson and Terry Ellis. A Grammy-nominated all-female R&B, club/dance, and soul vocal quartet En Vogue sold over 28 million albums and singles worldwide and have won more MTV Video Music Awards than any other female group in MTV history, a total of 7 VMAs! The group was named the second most successful girl group of the 1990s and the 18th most successful act overall of the 1990s according to Billboard magazine.
 
Today, En Vogue is Terry Ellis, Rhona Bennett and Cindy Herron-Braggs.  The name rings more than a bell.  It invokes memories of a long line of red-hot R&B and pop smashes.  Songs like “Hold On,” “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It),” “Giving Him Something He Can Feel,” “Free Your Mind,” and “Whatta Man” featuring Salt-N-Pepa, are just a sampling of the mega hits made famous by the Pop/R&B super group.   
 
Fusing style, sophistication, sass, and sex appeal, the magical En Vogue formula went on to sell over eight million albums.  In total, En Vogue recorded five albums: 1990’s “Born To Sing;” 1992’s “Funky Divas;” 1997’s “EV3;” 2000’s “Masterpiece Theatre;” and 2002’s “The Gift of Christmas.”
 
Since En Vogue’s 1990 debut, the ladies, who were the brain child of production team Denzil Foster and Thomas McElroy, set a standard for female R&B and pop acts like Destiny’s Child and the Pussy Cat Dolls. While En Vogue may have been trend-setters for those who followed them, the group itself began receiving comparisons to The Supremes, especially after internal differences caused original member Dawn Robinson to exit the group in 1997. But unlike The Supremes, En Vogue never disbands, instead the group exemplifies the fortitude of Motown veterans the Temptations, and continues to record and perform.
