Tower of Power, The Devil Makes Three, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Margo Price, and Marty Stuart to play the 28th Rhythm & Roots Festival

CHARLESTOWN, R.I. –– The 28th Rhythm & Roots Festival of Music & Dance is approaching fast and will feature Tower of Power, The Devil Makes Three, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Margo Price, Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Yonder Mountain String Band and more than twenty-five other artists at Ninigret Park over Labor Day weekend, including recent addition Adam Ezra Group. The scheduled set times for the weekend are now available!
Rhythm & Roots attracts over 5,000 daily visitors to Ninigret park including 1,500 weekend campers and has earned multiple awards and inclusion on numerous “best of” music festival lists. Considered one of the top 100 events in North America, the festival has been described as “an incredible experience, a perfectly organized, flawlessly run major destination event that music fans from all over the country will be drawn to.”
Friday night will be headlined by St. Paul & The Broken Bones, a powerhouse soul ensemble from Alabama known for their electrifying live shows and impassioned vocals. Blending rock & roll, soul, R&B, and more, the band has captivated audiences around the world since 2011.
Also performing Friday are Country music Hall of Famer Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives, perennial festival favorites Donna The Buffalo, Adam Ezra Group, The Mallett Brothers Band, Futurebirds, Kindred Valley, Los Texmaniacs, Sons of Levin, Paul Gabriel Blues Band, and Planet Zydeco.
Headlining Saturday is Tower of Power. Writers of the classics “What Is Hip?” and “So Very Hard To Go”, they have delivered the best in funk and soul music for 58 years. Bandleader Emilio Castillo says their love of the stage is the same today as it was back in 1968.
Also performing Saturday are Margo Price, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Johnny Mullenax, Los Texmaniacs, Donna The Buffalo, Ward Hayden & The Outliers, Curley Taylor & Zydeco Trouble, Knickerbocker All-Stars, The Quahogs, and The Alpaca Gnomes.
The Devil Makes Three, Sunday’s headliner, is a genre-defying act blending folk, blues, and punk. They have carved out a place in the American roots scene by marrying storytelling and introspection with high energy, rhythmic performances that keep fans on the dance floor.
Also performing Sunday are New Orleans legends Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Yonder Mountain String Band, Roomful of Blues, Quinn Sullivan, The Suitcase Junket, Canyon Lights, Jason Ingriselli & The Miles North, The Moonrise Cartel, and Curley Taylor & Zydeco Trouble. Christine Ohlman & Rebel Montez will open the show Sunday with their long standing “Sunday School” tradition, featuring The Sin Sisters & Frank Viele.
Performing all three days are Steve Riley & The Mamou Playboys, Pine Leaf Boys, Old-Fashioned Aces, Anchors Away Brass Band, and Ruben Moreno.
Music will be performed on three stages – the main Rhythm stage with standing room and lawn seating, and the tented Roots and Dance stages. In addition to nationally touring acts, fans are encouraged to check out up-and-coming local and regional talents including The Quahogs, The Mallett Brothers Band, Quinn Sullivan, The Moonrise Cartel, and Jason Ingriselli & the Miles North.
With its laid-back vibe, and picturesque setting, Rhythm & Roots provides an endless variety of roots music including blues, bluegrass, Cajun, country, gospel, southern rock, rhythm & blues, Americana and zydeco. Complementing the music will be equally diverse food options, including jambalaya, barbeque, Thai, and some local favorites.
Fans looking for an elevated festival experience can purchase the Lagniappe Lounge add-on, which includes early entry to the festival, air-conditioned restrooms, and access to a private viewing deck and lounge area with an excellent view of the Rhythm Stage.
Festival grounds open at 12 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Performances start one hour after opening and continue through 11 p.m. Tickets range from $102 for daily tickets to $269 for a 3-Day Non-Camping Pass. The festival is family-friendly, with dedicated family programming, and kids 12 and under attending free.
Ticket types include Single Day, 2-Day, 3-Day, and 3-Day Camping. Camping tickets are sold out, but fans are encouraged to join the wait list on the festival’s official resale market from Tixel.
