The 2nd Annual Civil Rights Movement Symposium: The Church, The Community, The Song: feat. Alton Scarborough

HISTORIC UNION BAPTIST CHURCH HOSTS 2ND ANNUAL CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT SYMPOSIUM
The Civil Rights Movement: The Church, The Community, The Song

The Historic Union Baptist Church will host its second Annual Civil Rights Movement: The Church, The Community, The Song. This two part event will be held on Saturday, March 28 and Sunday March 29, 2009 at 1219 Druid Hill Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland.

Part I: On Saturday, March 28th at 1:00 PM The Civil Rights Movement: The Church, The Community, will feature a symposium with a panel of dignitaries who have experienced being “trailblazers” in and due to the Civil Rights Movement. The invited panelist include Brigadier General (Retired) Clara Adams-Ender, former Chief of the Army Nurse Corps and author of My Rise To The Stars: How A Sharecropper’s Daughter Became A General; Mr. Lenny Moore, NFL Hall of Famer and former Baltimore Colt; Mr. Ernest Greene, member of the “Little Rock Nine;” and, Marvin “Doc” Cheatham, President, NAACP-Baltimore Branch.

Part II: On Sunday, March 29th at 4:00PM, will conclude with the final segment, “…The Song” with a concert by Psalmist Alton McClain Scarborough. Ms. Scarborough is a native Baltimorean and wife of the late, Grammy Award winning producer/songwriter Skip Scarborough. Her CDs of God’s word in song are sold from coast to coast and major cities in between while listed on the top 40 hits of Polydor Records. Formerly known as Alton McClain and Destiny, Ms. Scarborough has toured with many headliners including Vickie Winans, Peabo Bryson, Millie Jackson and Frankie Beverly & Maze to name only a few. The latest CD, Renaissance, is made up of songs that were (and still are) authorizing “…the redeeming power of His word to a world that needs to know.” ‘The Song’ of America’s Civil Rights Movement is what kept the church and the community empowered and it is for this reason that we conclude Union Baptist Church’s Civil Rights Movement Symposium with this concert.

Admission to all the events is open and free to the public. Doors open for Saturday’s panel discussion at 12:30PM and for Sunday’s concert the doors will open at 3:30PM. For further information please call Union Baptist Church at 410.523.6880.
